چکیده
We report a first principles, self-consistent, all electron, linear combination of Gaussian orbitals (LCGO) calculation of a comprehensive collection of magneto-optical properties of nickel and iron based on density functional theory. Among the many magneto-optical effects, we have studied the equatorial Kerr effect for absorption in the optical as well as soft X-ray region, where it is called X-ray magnetic linear dichroism (X-MLD). In the optical region the effect is of the order of 2% while in the X-ray region it is of the order of 1% for the incident angles considered. In addition, the polar Kerr effect, X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (X-MCD) and total X-ray absorption at the L 2,3 edges, soft X-ray Faraday effect at the L 2,3 edges have also been calculated. Our results are in good agreement with experiments and other first principles methods that have been used to calculate some of these properties.

متن کاملLongitudinal Magneto-Optical Kerr Effect in Ce:YIG Thin Films Incorporating Gold Nanoparticles
We report an experimental study on optical and magneto-optical properties of Cesubstituted yttrium iron garnet thin films incorporating gold nanoparticles. Au nanoparticles were formed by heating Au thin film on cubic quartz and garnet substrate in vacuum chamber and a Ce:YIG layer was deposited on them by the aid of Pulsed laser deposition method. A large enhancement of the longitudinal Kerr e...
متن کاملFirst principles calculation of anomalous Hall conductivity in ferromagnetic bcc Fe.
We perform a first principles calculation of the anomalous Hall effect in ferromagnetic bcc Fe. Our theory identifies an intrinsic contribution to the anomalous Hall conductivity and relates it to the k-space Berry phase of occupied Bloch states. This dc conductivity has the same origin as the well-known magneto-optical effect, and our result accounts for experimental measurement on Fe crystals...
متن کاملCalculation of Electronic and Optical Properties of Doped Titanium Dioxide Nanostructure
By means of first principles calculations we show that both rutile and anatase phases of bulk TiO2 doped by S, Se or Pb can display substantial decreasing in the band gap (up to 50%), while doping by Zr does not sizably affect the band-gap value. Moreover, the absorption edge is shifted (up to 1 eV) to the lower energy range in the case of TiO2 doped by S or Pb that opens a way to enhancin...
متن کاملMagneto-Optical properties of GaP single crystal
The temperature dependence of magneto-optical and magneto-photoconductivity measurements were carried out in the range of (200-330) K. A home made optical cryostat was used for the measurements. The measured room temperature value of the energy gap was found to be 2.211 eV. The temperature coefficient of energy gap was found to be -5.48×10-4 eV/K obtained by the optical absorption method and -4...
